Piers and Marianne

We had a great week or so over Easter with a mix of warm sunny days and a few showers. Highlights as follows

• Nice Lunch in Paimpol at a restaurant called Chez Tonton Guy (next to the Hotel K’Loys). And a drink at Bar L’Époque a few doors down, very lively even in April on market day. Bought some amazing cheese in Maison Cloarec and our Easter chocolate at Maison Adam both in Paimpol.

• Easter Mass at Tréguier Cathedral —(very) long, traditional service (in Latin/French/Breton!). Fantastic lunch afterwards at Le Gouermel, then a walk up the coast path towards to Le Gouffre.

• Drove up to Kermouster then walked along the GR34 footpath to the Le Chaumard oyster bar just beyond Porz Guyon — first oyster experience – very salty!

• Couple of walks into town and drinks at the bar on the main street - again along the GR34 footpath, with the first bit along the beach if the tide was low (if not, a bit of a detour around); works on the main street nearly finished. The bar in the port near the marina was being refurbished.

• Went to a Farm shop on way to Treguier (La Ferme de Keredern) — great vegetables, crêpes, and prepared food.

• Finally, drove and parked just over the big bridge and walked up the coast to the sailing school opposite the house – to get a view of the house from the other side of the estuary!

All in all, a great week – just by the way petrol in France was around 2 Euro a litre and something like 2.30 for diesel! Met Frederique and husband for a few chats in the lane, very friendly and she said she is there for the next month whilst her husband is back in Paris working. Did not see any other neighbours.

Looking forward to our next short visit at end of May

Anne and Huw

Following on from the heat of this summer, we were quite happy to have a few clouds, blustery days and heavy showers and lot of bright sunshine in between. Less meals on the terrace but always good food by the cooks and shoppers.

Restaurants visited included Auberge du Trieux (7/10 -main courses disappointing), le Gouermel (8/10) - tough faux filets! Best meal was on Ile de Brehat at the Bistro Alligoat just off the main square (9/10), a fantastic set lunch. Also tried there Le Crech Kerio - lovely welcome but food 7/10. Would have liked to have tried the Restaurant 22 opposite the Bistro is you want a gourmet meal but was closed and there's a limit to how many times you visit the island. Bar du Yacht served decent moules frites.

Importantly we sorted the broken dishwasher and had a Siemens model bought, delivered and run through all on the same day by Blanc Brun in Paimpol. The mobile phone proved important for this purchase plus a couple of other local calls. Note there are TVs also in this shop for when we want to source.

Between ourselves and JF, extra gardening was done. Much cleared and discussed after receiving messages from Claire about our "unneighbourly conduct regarding tree growth". Managed to get agreement to clear the heavy buddleia growth on our back roof and tipped everything down the far end of her garden towards the shoreline which she uses. After all, her branches and avoided a trip to the tip. We've gone through winter cutting jobs for JF nearer to the house plus wisteria trim once all occupancy stops end of October. Louis Jacob agreed to ensure final limb of large oak is cut by his man in October. This will definitely improve our view down towards port. Also hasn't forgotten to help with new tarmac once he's ready to use on his drive opposite. We had a pleasant aperitif with him and Claudie. He will be a good ally in the future. Will talk further about Claire and outstanding garden work at AGM.

Wanderer used and enjoyed.

Jane and Brian - with family and friends

We have had another very happy , sunny Summer holiday with our family and grandchildren. Not straying far this time with our two month old grandaughter .

We made the most of the hot days , loving the beautiful views of the estuary from our patio table.

BBQ’s , pool . Visits to the beaches nearby .

Spotted dolphins again on our first evening.

We had a few local walks from the house to the village and along the lanes to Kermouster to La Cambuse cafe / bar with live music , suppers and /theme nights once a week (open most days in July and August)

There is a great little Oyster Bar on the coast ( another Bar huitres!)near Laneros on the Reserve naturelle du Sillon de Talbert . Seasonal too.

In Lezardrieux weekly Friday market we listened to Breton bagpipes! sipping coffee / or a beer !!

Another great meal with our friends in Auberge Du Trieux .

Enjoyed Paimpol Tuesday market and the Creperie/ Aux Vieux Greements by the harbour .

Always sad to leave ….looking forward to next years stay.

Eileen and Tim Hoare and family

The best weather we have ever enjoyed here and the first time in August!

On arrival took bed linen out of washing machine and dryer and hung on airers outside. Some items had to be rewashed as the machines had been overloaded and hadn't washed well and some smelt musty from dryer.

JF I think under much pressure to complete changeover quickly and can over fill machines.

No problem for us to hang things out in glorious sunshine.

A few complaints from neighbour Claire about the fan - again! Tim bought a new fan and installed in loft and this seems much quieter and complaints have stopped.

Position of Aldes is on 1 .

The fan in the loft automatically switches to 2 when the extractor fan above the hob is switched on even though the Aldes position remains on 1.

Anyway, pool had a lot of use but the hot tub was hardly used as it was too hot! Lots of fun and games and we all had a lovely time.

Luckily flies had abated so we were able to keep windows open.

Several bbqs (charcoal in cushion box) and nearly all breakfasts enjoyed outside.

The Chant du Marin Festival was great fun and we sang and danced to some quirky bands. All day/night ticket for 35eur including face painting!

Great child friendly lunch at Neptune in Paimpol, Moulin a Mer, and adults enjoyed Auberge du Trieux, Chaudron Gourmand ( the new restaurant on hill) in Lezardrieux, and Le Gouermel.

Went out in the rib for a short trip up to house and then back beyond the bridge. Unfortunately the winterisation alarm came on and engine cut out after 5 mins but then after restarting it was ok. This happened twice. Trieux Marine are aware. See Rib Log for more detail.

Tim bought a new house mobile handset after discussing with Simon. The number remains the same 0780287056

New stair and landing carpet was fitted and is lovely underfoot! The fitters gave us a blunt hacksaw blade and they said using this like a very stiff brush was the best way to remove fluff and crumbs from the carpet. It actually does work very well!

There is a small leak from the top pipe of the new hot water cylinder in the understairs cupboard. There was damp on the floor and wall. A plumber from Alloca is due on Monday 18th August am to sort it.....

All in all we've had a wonderful time.

26th-31st Mar 2025

Jane, Eileen, Brian and Tim

We were there for the SWP (which is covered elsewhere) but still had the opportunity to eat out at the Auberg de Trieux for evening meal and Hotel du Port in Paimpol for Sunday lunch. Both were very good.

The road from the village to the port is closed until end of May so you need to make a short deviation. The bridge is still single file

15th-19th Mar 2025

Simon & Christine

The weather has been very cold and windy, but dry.

We arrived to a clean house, and got it warmed up in half an hour.

We got all the jobs done – Upgrade WiFi, fix VPN for Sky TV, fix Firestick TV

New Smoke & CO alarms installed

HOTTUB Cannisters stored – there’s now plenty for the coming year.

JF cut the grass on the last day.

Everything seems to be working well. We didn’t open the pool.

The new Saint Malo ferry, however, is rather disappointing compared with the previous ships.
